It Is Better To Give Than Receive…

One thing that Michael and I have enjoyed doing each year that we’ve been married is pack a shoebox for Operation Christmas Child through Samaritan’s Purse.  We knew before we had kids that we wanted our children to eventually be involved in shopping for and packing the boxes as well.  Although Myla can’t completely comprehend what we are doing, she does realize that these boxes are going to little girls somewhere far away that normally wouldn’t get a Christmas present.  I know with each year that she and Selah get bigger, they will understand more and more and learn that it really is more important to give than receive.  In America our kids are so desensitized to the fact that there are so many kids in need around the world that don’t have anything.  Our children never really want for anything, which is a blessing, but I want our girls to be sensitive to those who are less fortunate.  If you are not familiar with Operation Christmas Child, I would encourage you to go to their website and learn more.  Each box will also have a Gospel tract, so the child will not only receive actual gifts, she will also be told about the greatest gift of all….JESUS!!  My heart just smiles at the thought of some precious little girl in another country having this box handed to her.  It very well may be the only present she will ever get in  her whole life.  Wow…just think about that!
